Six years after first publishing his self-written memoir, longtime Winchester resident Bill Cummings has released a much changed and updated new edition. The local entrepreneur and philanthropist is inviting owners of any previous version to make a no-cost swap for the hot-off-the-press seventh edition.
Cummings, founder of commercial real estate firm Cummings Properties and its affiliated Cummings Foundation, released the first edition of “Starting Small and Making It Big” in 2018. Over the ensuing two years, he printed five more editions to keep up with demand, making edits and updates for each new printing.
The latest version has been enhanced with many revisions and multiple new chapters, plus full-color pictures throughout.
“I created this book as a legacy project, rather than a revenue generator,” said Cummings. “With that in mind, if any past readers are genuinely interested in having this new-and-improved version, we will be delighted to make a trade at no cost.”
Like all past printings, 100% of all proceeds from book sales will go to Cummings Foundation for charitable purposes.
The readership of “Starting Small” has topped 20,000 to date. The majority of sales has been related to Cummings’ speaking engagements at more than 100 colleges and businesses. Author talks took him to dozens of venues around New England and as far away as United Nations in New York, The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, University of Oxford in England, and even University of Rwanda four years ago.
To trade in an older version of “Starting Small” for a copy of the seventh edition at no charge, local individuals are invited to stop by the reception desk at Cummings Properties’ Woburn headquarters, at 200 West Cummings Park. Books will be accepted in any condition, Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. – 5:15 p.m., through Labor Day.
