Winchester artist Ruth Lieberherr will showcase her new acrylic paintings and picture books at the Winchester Public Library throughout February 2025.

“Seeing with the Eyes of Love” will be on exhibit from Feb. 1-27 at the Winchester Public Library, 80 Washington St.

Inspired by her journey through cancer diagnosis, treatments, and the challenges of the pandemic, Lieberherr found solace and joy in nature. Her frequent walks with friends along the shores and wooded paths of Woburn’s Horn Pond became a wellspring of creativity.

These experiences are beautifully captured in her latest works, including “Forest Bathing I” and “Forest Bathing II,” which convey the tranquility of tall pine trees.
Horn Pond, with its seasonal vibrancy, abundant wildlife, and serene atmosphere, deeply influenced Lieberherr’s artistry.

The ducks, swans, turtles, and birds, along with the cycles of life symbolized by nesting swans and hatching ducklings, inspired a sense of renewal reflected in her paintings. Many of her new works serve as meditations on these natural encounters, celebrating peace, hope, and joy.

Additionally, Lieberherr’s yoga practice, dance experiences, and the tremendous outpouring of love and support she received during her treatments informed other aspects of her exhibit. To complement the new paintings, she is including select older works, creating a cohesive and enriching display. She hopes her art will inspire viewers with feelings of joy, hope, and peace.

Originally from Switzerland, Lieberherr now resides in Winchester, with her husband. She is a multifaceted artist, illustrator, and writer, as well as a yoga teacher, dancer, mother, and grandmother.

Her paintings have received awards and have been exhibited in galleries and cultural centers in the United States, France, and Switzerland. Her works are part of private and corporate collections across Europe and the USA.

Lieberherr is also an accomplished author and illustrator. Her written and illustrated works include “The Caterpillar and the Butterfly” and “The Boy Without a Name” (inspired by her father’s life). She has also illustrated numerous picture books, including “By Some Great Spell” (by Mary Beth Melton), “Hafez,” “The Mathematical Stonecutter” (by Michael Punzak), “The Knottles” (by Nancy Mellon), “Journey to Inner Space: A Children’s Yoga Book” (by Deborah R. Cohen), and “Winter, Awake!” (by Linda Kroll).
