Winchester News started because, like many Massachusetts communities, Winchester lacked robust reporting about local issues after the collapse of the historic weekly that had served the town since the 1860s.
It was hard to find information about our town, even if you knew where to look, and even if you had time to look there. The founders and board members of Winchester News are all Winchester residents. We are committed to creating a sustainable, trusted, and reliable nonprofit community news source for Winchester. You can help to sustain Winchester News by making a donation. Gifts of all sizes are welcome, and recurring monthly donations help us have a predictable stream of income. Broad community support for this effort will help us to secure larger gifts and grants.
Here are some frequently asked questions about donating.
Who can donate?
Almost everyone who loves local news. To support our editorial independence, we are prohibited by our fiscal sponsor from accepting donations directly from elected members of town boards and committees. Town Meeting Members are encouraged to support Winchester News with a financial gift.
What happens after I donate?
You will receive two emails confirming your tax-deductible gift: the first from our fiscal sponsor Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), and another from News Revenue Engine, the online platform used to process donations. All contributions or gifts to Winchester News Group are tax-deductible through INN.
Can I give online?
Of course, you can give online! To make a recurring monthly or one-time gift via credit or debit card, please go here.

Please email treasurer@winchesternews.org to let us know that you have asked your financial institution to make the gift from your DAF and for how much, so we can make sure it is handled appropriately.
