Live in-person and live streamed from the stunning Ripley Chapel at First Congregational Church, Winchester, welcome dynamic trio Triton on Friday, June 6, beginning at 7:30 p.m., featuring piano accordion, the quieter, bellows-blown bagpipes, and fiddle and nyckelharpa.
From festival and intimate house concerts to BalFolk, Breton, and New England contra dances, Triton moves body and soul alike.
Instrumentalists Jeremiah McLane, Timothy Cummings, and Alex Kehler create a beguiling and orchestral blend which utterly subverts the common stereotypes of their Old World instruments. Their repertoire includes bourrées from central France, triple-time hornpipes from the Scottish Borders, the Swedish slängpolska, the Breton hanter dro, and compelling originals reflecting these influences.
Unified by their zeal and musical craftsmanship, their performances are also punctuated with engaging commentary on the music and instruments.
TRITON:
Alex Kehler, born in Nova Scotia and now from southern Québec, is a multi-instrumentalist who studied classical Baroque music. He has played in a number of other highly esteemed bands including La Nef, Skye Consort and the Kehler-Williams Duo. Alex’s love of Scandinavian music drove him to play nyckelharpas and låtmandola, as well as violin and cittern.
Timothy Cummings, musician/composer from Vermont, is a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in pipes. It’s his terrific Scottish small pipes and Border pipes that we often hear in concert. His musical accomplishments include a diverse repertoire from Brittany, Appalachia, Cape Breton and the British Isles.
Jeremiah McLane, is a highly accomplished musician and composer with an equally varied background including jazz, blues, Québécois, and traditional French music. Jeremiah has been involved for years in the resurgence of traditional music and dance in New England.
