The following was submitted by Town Day Co-Chair Allan Eyden:

After the past 11 Saturdays bringing some sort of rainy weather, the Town Day organizers are hoping, like the luck enjoyed by the En Ka Fair, that the early rain forecasts are wrong.

Town Day is now in its 44th year as a community celebration to kick off the summer season.

The Winchester Town Day Committee is still mourning the loss of two long-time members and beloved friends in the past few weeks — Jimmy Johnson and Deb Ciarcia. Now, co-chair Connie Demakes is scheduled for surgery, just days before the event, that will preclude her attendance.

With almost 170 businesses, organizations, and community groups scheduled to attend, Saturday’s event should be a success, with the usual collection of free events, like the petting zoo, the historic trolleys, many musical performances on two stages, and, of course, the fireworks show in the evening.

The committee is hoping for influx of new volunteers and ideas. Anyone interested is helping to keep Town Day alive should drop by the Town Day information booth and leave their contact information.

Should the weather force postponement, the rain date is Sunday, June 8.

Postponement will be posted on the townday.org website.
