My name is Terence Tirella and I live at 30 Florence Street in precinct 2.  I was born and raised in Winchester and lived here for most of my life.  My wife Alyssa and I lived in Woburn from 2010 and then purchased our property here in town in 2023.  We have three young children who attend school in town.

I am a proud product of the Winchester Public School system.  I attended Winchester Co-operative Nursery School (WCNS) as a young child, Muraco Elementary, McCall Middle School, and was a member of the WHS class of 2000.  I graduated from Boston College with a BS in Computer Science in 2004.  Professionally I work as a product manager in the software industry.  I am currently employed at Shopify and previously worked at companies such as Salesforce and Vistaprint.

I am a first time candidate for elected office in Winchester.

I have volunteered for a number of organizations in Winchester and our surrounding community.  I have coached youth soccer in town, taught CCD at St. Mary's, and volunteered with Cradles to Crayons, the Greater Boston Food Bank, and Habitat for Humanity.  I have also been an active volunteer at our children's schools: WCNS and Muraco.

I'm asking for the votes of residents of precinct 2 because I believe it's important that our neighborhood's voices are heard at Town Meeting.  As a long time resident of the town, a parent of children in school, I care a lot about our town and want to give back to our community and help it continue to be a special place for families.  There is a lot going on in town that directly affects our precinct.  Three issues in particular are of special import to me:

  1. We need to rebuild Muraco school.  With the completion of the Lynch re-build later this year Muraco is the only school in town that has not been re-built.  The students of Muraco (many of whom reside in precinct 2) deserve to have high quality facilities just as much as the students of our town's other schools.
  2. The town must resolve the redevelopment of the Washington - Swanton St. property AKA "Mega CVS."  The select board acquired the property in December of 2021 yet it still remains undeveloped years later.  This property has been an eyesore for our neighborhood for too long.
  3. Reducing housing costs.  In Winchester and across Massachusetts this is the number one issue for many families.  I realize how lucky I am that my parents were able to move to Winchester in the early 1980s and raise me and my siblings here.  Today too many families are unable to do this because of the high cost of living.  At the same time many of our senior citizens find it harder to continue to live in the community where they've made their home and raised their families.  If elected to Town Meeting it will be my goal to support initiatives (such as the recently passed ADU by-law) that can help alleviate the cost of housing in our town.

If elected to Town Meeting I will aim to make myself available to constituents of the second precinct in person, on the phone, and over email.  By being available directly to constituents as well as indirectly via news sources like Winchester News I can make my positions understood and get direct input from the community.

I am honored to be on the ballot and if elected to town meeting look forward to the opportunity to represent our community in our local democratic process.  Thank you for your consideration and your vote.
