State Sens. Jason Lewis and Pat Jehlen and state Reps. Michael Day and Michelle Ciccolo are pleased to announce the Winchester Fire Department is receiving a $18,829 state grant to purchase new safety equipment through the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.
Fire departments across Massachusetts may utilize this program to purchase a wide variety of eligible equipment, including thermal and ballistic protective clothing, thermal imaging cameras, hand tools and extrication equipment, hoses and nozzles, communications gear, and hazardous gas meters.
“Our brave firefighters risk health hazards posed by smoke and other fire byproducts to protect our lives and property,” said Lewis. “We owe it to them to ensure that they have all necessary safety equipment, and this grant will help do so.”
“I am so grateful for the hard work firefighters do to keep our community safe,” said Jehlen. “It is only right that we try to keep them as safe as possible at all times. I’m glad to see this grant help them get the equipment to make it possible.”
“I commend the Winchester Fire Department for proactively seeking out this grant opportunity and for their ongoing commitment to strengthening public safety,” said Day. “Continued investment in our fire services is essential, and I will continue to advocate for programs like this to ensure our firefighters have the tools and protections they deserve.”
“Each day, our firefighters choose to risk their own health and safety to protect us,” said Ciccolo. “This grant will allow us to ensure that they have the most up to date and safest equipment possible.”
“On behalf of the Winchester Fire Department, I wish to thank Sens. Jason Lewis and Pat Jehlen and state Reps. Michael Day and Michelle Ciccolo for their work in securing the $18,829 state grant for our Fire Department,” said Winchester Fire Chief Steven B. Osborne Jr. “Providing our first responders with modern safety equipment is essential for their protection and the safety of our entire community. I appreciate your continued advocacy for Winchester’s public safety needs.”
