While Winchester is known for its quiet streets and historic charm, for one month every year, it becomes the global epicenter of “concise cinema.” The Just A Minute Festival, a homegrown international phenomenon, is proud to announce its 2026 Official Selection, bringing the creative energy of 37 countries directly to the screens of Winchester residents.

Now in its 17th year, this unique festival was founded on the idea that a great story doesn't need an hour—it needs a minute. What started as a local initiative has blossomed into a worldwide movement, with the 2026 season receiving over 400 submissions from filmmakers from 39 countries. From those entries, a curated “Official Selection” of the top 60 films is ready for public viewing.

A Community-Powered Event

The Just A Minute Festival is a point of local pride, fueled by the support of the Winchester community. The 2026 program is supported in part by a grant from the Winchester Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council. This funding ensures that the festival remains a free, world-class cultural resource for residents right here in town.

“We’ve always been proud that Winchester serves as the launchpad for these global stories,” says the Festival Directorate. “You can travel from a documentary in Brazil to an animation from Japan, all while sitting in your favorite chair on Main Street. This year, we want to see our Winchester neighbors leading the charge in the voting booths.”

Watch and Win: How Winchester Can Participate.

The festival is calling on Winchester residents to help decide the winners. Starting May 10, the Official Selection is live at justAMinute.tv. Because the films are strictly 60 seconds or less, viewers can experience the entire global collection in about an hour. Voting is open until June 10th.

To make the Viewers’ Choice event even more exciting, the festival is offering local (and global) participants the chance to win:

  • Random Cash Giveaways: Every resident who casts a ballot is automatically entered to win cash prizes.
  • The More You Watch, The More You Win: The festival’s unique 2026 incentive means that frequent voters increase their chances of being selected for a giveaway.

Join the Global Conversation

Whether you are a film buff, a student, or just looking for a quick burst of creativity, the Just A Minute Festival offers a “snackable” way to engage with the arts. Winchester residents are encouraged to visit the website, support the filmmakers, and potentially take home a prize for their participation.

For more information, to view the films, or to cast your vote starting May 10, visit justAMinute.tv.
