A pair of 5-0 victories this past week over Woburn (Oct. 3) and Watertown (Oct. 5) propelled the Winchester High boys soccer team to a 6-1-1 record. They did, however, dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to host Reading on Oct. 7 to account for their second loss of the season.

But at the halfway point of the season, Coach Vin Musto’s squad remains on target for another long run in the postseason.

As of Oct. 6, the Red & Black are seeded 12th, according to the MIAA Division 1 power rankings, which didn’t take into consideration the games earlier this week against Watertown and Reading.

Against Woburn, captain Cole Queenan paced the attack with two goals and two assists, including igniting the offense with the first score of the game. Faris Ebeid accounted for one goal and one assist. Captain Brady Cedrone netted one marker. William Gately closed out the scoring with a goal from Ingo Lee. Captain Ronan O’Hara chipped in with two assists.

In the Watertown game, Queenan once again played a significant role in the offense with one goal and one assist. Destin Liu, Hugo Brennan, sophomore Felix Cobbold and Cedrone each scored once. Captain Sam Crafts and sophomore Declan Smyth were credited with one assist apiece.

After nine games, Queenan leads the team in scoring with five goals and nine assists for 14 points. Ebeid has five goals and four assists. Cedrone is next up with four goals and one assist. Liu has four goals to date. Senior Lachlan Archer has produced three goals and one assist.

Junior Kieran Sand stands at one goal and two assists. Gately and Brennan each has two goals. Cobbold has tallied once. O’Hara chipped in with two assists so far. Junior Finn O’Brien, senior captain and goalie William Brown, Lee, Smyth and Crafts set up one assist apiece.

The Winchester boys will play host to Arlington on Saturday (Oct. 10) at Knowlton, starting at 1:30 p.m. They have two games scheduled for next week against Burlington (Oct. 12, at Burlington’s Simonds Middle School, 10 a.m.) and Belmont (Oct. 14, at Knowlton, 6 p.m.).
