What experiences and perspectives would you contribute to Town Meeting?
I have raised 2 children who have gone through the Winchester Public School system.
I have been a Town Meeting member for over 10 years and served on the Select Board for 6 years, including as Chair. Prior to that, I served on the Finance Committee, including a year as Chair.
What are two or three issues facing Winchester that you think are most important and what are your positions on them?
Being able to provide the services that the residents expect. For example, making sure that children in our schools have access to a new literacy curriculum and the support they need in math, special education, and other services. Balancing these needs with municipal ones such as public safety and DPW needs.
Continuing to adjust our zoning so that mixed use development is possible along transit routes. The commercial space in mixed use will help diversify our tax base and increase vibrancy. The residential units in mixed use developments are needed for young families and also for long-term residents who are looking to downsize from large single family homes while being able to stay in Winchester.
What is a special challenge in your precinct that might not be faced in other precincts?
Lack of sidewalks, which can affect accessibility for children walking to school as well as for those with mobility impairments.
Why should voters elect you to represent them?
After leaving the Select Board, I have continued to volunteer for the Town. I recently volunteered on the State of the Town committee, using my expertise as former Select Board and Finance Committee Chair to help model the financial needs of the Town.
