Get ready to immerse yourself in a fun-filled celebration of music as Winchester Community Music School hosts its annual Music MAYnia festival on Sunday, May 5, from 1 to 5 p.m.

This beloved tradition, now in its 20th year, brings together WCMS’s vibrant community and invites music enthusiasts from all walks of life to celebrate the power of music.

Music MAYnia is the school’s biggest event of the year and offers a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family. Attendees can explore the many outdoor tents and indoor performance spaces filled with music, games, activities, and instrument demonstrations.

The highlight of the event is the marathon of performances on four stages, featuring over 300 talented student musicians — from young children to seniors — showcasing their hard work and dedication.

There are many solo performers as well as ensembles, bands, and group classes that participate.

Attendees can also partake of tasty treats from two food trucks.

From classical melodies to contemporary rock tunes, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

“I love being able to see everyone's hard work and what they've accomplished” says Laurie Russell, executive director. “It’s a great opportunity for all of our students to perform in front of a crowd and with their peers. Music MAYnia truly gives them a sense of accomplishment — plus, it’s so much fun. Everyone loves the colorful MAYnia t-shirts, the balloons, the games, and the festival atmosphere.”

Instrument demonstrations for percussion and brass instruments are held every half hour. New this year will be a tent with steel drums — come give them a try!

“Music MAYnia is beloved by my family,” says Salma Abounadi, a longtime student parent and advisor. “It offers a platform for community connection through performances and volunteering. It fosters a sense of togetherness and provides memorable experiences for everyone involved.”

Over 60 volunteers help make Music MAYnia a success each year; anyone interested in volunteering at the event can visit our website for the online signup.

Admission and most activities are free; there is a small charge for games (which offer prizes) and for spin art.

The event is held rain or shine at 407 Highland Ave., Winchester.
