A GoFundMe campaign and item collection drive have been launched to support Corey Lyons Marsden, a well-known letter carrier in Winchester, following a devastating house fire on July 20.

The fire destroyed the Marsden family home in Woburn, leaving Corey, a single mother of two daughters, ages 10 and 9, with nothing. This tragedy comes just four years after the loss of her husband, compounding the challenges she faces in raising her children alone.

Corey has been a dedicated mail carrier at the Winchester Post Office, admired by many local residents.

Wendy Lucia, a resident leading the item drive, praised Corey’s dedication.

“Corey goes above and beyond the requirements of her job as a postal carrier to many of us in Winchester,” Lucia said. “She is truly a friend and caregiver of our community.”

Lucia also emphasized the extent of the loss.

“The contents of her home are a total loss other than a small drawer of photos and a couple pieces of jewelry,” Lucia said. “She was not insured so the generosity of her community is especially appreciated.”

The campaigns aim to help Corey and her daughters rebuild their lives. Donations will be used for housing, clothing, personal items, school supplies, soccer equipment, and covering expenses resulting from the fire.

Lucia said Corey is balancing the many steps to find emergency housing, keep her girls eligible for their preferred school,  return to work,  and provide a sense of safety,  security and normalcy to her daughters, all while processing a second life-changing loss in four years.

“My hope is to facilitate those who want to help in a useful and meaningful way,” Lucia continued. “If Corey’s community can take care of basic necessities, she can spend more time focusing on the many tasks ahead, caring for her family, and returning to work. I’d love to be able to make that happen. She’s that special of a person.”
