Local nonprofit re-emerges with big dreams for recreation in Winchester

The following was submitted by the Friends of Winchester Recreation and Community Services:

The Friends of Winchester Recreation and Community Services, Inc. 501c(3) is back in action. After a brief hiatus, the organization has returned with renewed vigor.

One of the primary goals of The Friends of Winchester Recreation and Community Services is to help support the town’s Recreation Department facilities and programming. The nonprofit envisions a comprehensive upgrade of local parks, playgrounds, and sports fields, ensuring that they are safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. The addition of a “3rd Space” for teens is also a priority.

The Friends of Winchester Recreation and Community Services recognize the importance of collaboration in achieving their goals. They intend to work closely with local government, businesses, and other community organizations to pool resources and expertise.

By building strong partnerships, they aim to support a sustainable model for recreational services and facilities that will benefit Winchester for years to come. The Friends are happy to continue their partnership with Kids’ Connection Parent Advisory Committee.

Inaugural Fundraiser

As an inaugural fundraiser, the Friends and WinREC will host the 1st Friends of Winchester Recreation Pickleball Tournament on Sept. 21 at the newly resurfaced Leonard Field courts. Stayed tuned for registration details in the coming days. Sponsorships are available.

Get Involved

The organization is calling on community members to get involved in their efforts. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including social media marketing and fundraising.
