League of Women Voters: How to vote in important 2024 elections

The following was submitted by the League of Women Voters in Winchester:

Important elections are coming up on Sept. 3 and Nov. 5. Are you sure you are registered to vote? Has it been a while since the last time you made it to the polls, or have you moved recently?

The time to check your voter registration is now — it’s easy to do online. The Massachusetts Secretary of State online portal for voters is www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR/

You will see a box for “Check my Registration” as well as for “Update Address or Party” and “Register to Vote.”

When is the deadline? The deadline to register to vote in the September State Primary is Aug. 24, 2024. Early voting for the Primary is Aug. 26-30.

The deadline to register for the November General Election for U.S. president and Congress is Oct. 26, 2024.

Other key deadlines and voting hours can be found at the Winchester Town Clerk’s site at www.winchester.us  Info is under “Voting in Winchester” or the big VOTE button on the town’s home page.

The League of Women Voters has voting information and candidate questionnaires for all 50 states at www.vote411.org

Note to Students: You must be a U.S. citizen,18 years of age on Election Day, and registered to vote in order to cast a ballot — You do not need to be 18 years old to register to vote.

A Winchester resident aged 17 can pre-register by using the online portal IF you have a MA identification number from the MA Registry of Motor Vehicles on a valid Learner’s permit or Driver’s License.
