Prison Book Program welcomes Winchester resident to board

Prison Book Program (PBP) is proud to announce the addition of three distinguished individuals to its Board of Directors, including Winchester resident Judy Doctoroff.

These new members bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to PBP’s mission of supporting people in prison by providing free, high-quality reading material that matches their specific needs and interests.

Doctoroff is a former television producer with over 30 years of broadcast experience, notably working with Bill Moyers on public television. In 2015, she founded Public Square Media, a non-profit production company focusing on critical issues for democracy, including mass incarceration.

Doctoroff was formerly the managing director of Covering Climate Now, an organization dedicated to improving global climate reporting. She and her husband, Jim, have been dedicated PBP volunteers since moving to Boston in 2019.

They have three grown children living outside the area.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shehime, Lee, and Judy to the Prison Book Program’s Board of Directors,” said Kelly Brotzman, executive director of PBP. “Each of them brings a unique blend of experience, passion, and dedication to our mission. Their diverse backgrounds and deep commitment to reading and the needs of incarcerated people will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to provide meaningful resources and opportunities to those we serve. We look forward to their contributions and are excited to work together to advance our mission in the years to come.”

The addition of the three new members brings the total number of PBP board members to 11, each bringing unique perspectives and skills to the organization. In addition to the new appointments, the organization also announces the appointment of the following Board officers for the 2024-2025 fiscal year: Ellen Lubell, Board President; Timothy Olson, Treasurer; Timothy Cross, Clerk.
