The long-awaited opening of Nouvelle Maison is happening this week.

Celine and Tom Kimberly have taken on a new venture and started the shop on Church Street, which features everything from fruits and vegetables to French chocolate bars and 110 different cheeses.

Celine, who was born in France and grew up in England says, “I learned so much about the French food tradition from my mother and grandmother.”

The shop is bright and airy and has seating for 15 people. Studio on the Common owner Gail Ockerbloom was on hand to celebrate the soft opening.

“I’m thrilled to have Celine on the block!” she says.

“The last two weeks have been a roller coaster,” Celine says.  “We underestimated how much time it would take, but we have an amazing team and many friends came in to help us,” says Celine. “We hope to have several different types of classes.”

The shop sells five types of sandwiches and also a “charcuterie lunch box.” Breads and pastries are available as are French and American wines plus hard liquor.

The Kimberlys plan to offer classes in how to do wine-tasting, and will partner with Isobel Magee to run cookie decorating classes.

“The enthusiasm from the community really lifts us up and keeps us going,” she adds.
