Two Winchester High School Red & Black wrestlers – Anshu Patra and Kai Napadow Baquero –represented the team quite well during the All-State Meet last Friday and Saturday (Feb. 28 and March 1) at Methuen High School.

This annual event brings together the best wrestlers from all three divisions.

Patra, the girls senior team captain, secured two wins during the girls portion of the All-State Meet, while on the other side of the mat, Napadow Baquero, the boys team’s junior captain, became the first Winchester wrestler in five years to place at the annual statewide event – sixth overall in the 113-pound weight class.

As a result, Napadow Baquero has qualified for the All-New England Regional Championship Meet this weekend in Providence, R.I.

The top six wrestlers in each weight class throughout the state competed in the All-States, and the Winchester junior captain was among them as one of the best of the bests this year.

Napadow Baquero made it to the state finals after winning the Division 3 state championship for the second year in a row. He was then able to battle through the statewide bracket to earn a sixth-place finish.

He now has a record of 46-8, and continues to prove himself to be among the best in the state, which is made of approximately 160 high school teams.

Napadow Baquero will now compete in the 113-pound weight class against his elite peers in all six New England states this weekend.

Through the tireless efforts of head cCoach Ryan Errico and his assistants Anthony Fraumeni and Tomi Uyehara, the Red & Black wrestling program is growing and improving rapidly, and will hopefully have even more wrestlers place in the ensuing years at the All-States in order to qualify for the regional meet.
