One year ago, the Winchester High boys lacrosse team finished the regular season as the 10th seed in Division 1 with a 12-7 record. They then went on to make it to the Sweet 16 after blowing out Shrewsbury, the 23rd seed, 15-2 in the Round of 32, only to lose a high scoring game to Westford Academy, the seventh seed, 13-11.

It was a tough way to see the season come to an end, but Coach Phil Reuland is ready to move on with another “well-balanced team.”

Ryan Martin, Ted Budreski, Oliver Goldberg, Gianni Deprimeo and Cooper Spence are the Red & Black’s 2026 captains, and after two preseason scrimmages against Marblehead (March 21) and Acton-Boxborough (March 24) these five senior leaders and their teammates are scheduled to begin the regular season against non-league Newton North in the home opener on Saturday, March 28, at 10 a.m. They will be at Wilmington to face the Wildcats on April 2 at 5 p.m.

“We have a highly competitive team, and a starting lineup filled with a mixture of sophomore, junior and senior players,” said Reuland. “Our schedule is loaded with great opponents, including league rivals Reading, Wakefield and Lexington, and non-league powerhouses Hingham (April 22, at Knowlton, 10 a.m.), Medfield (April 18, at Knowlton, at 6 p.m.), Andover (May 22, 7 p.m.) and Longmeadow (May 17, 3:30 p.m.). We are also excited to add non-league Ipswich (April 11, at Knowlton, 11 a.m.) and Newton North (Saturday’s home opener opponent) to the schedule.”

Ipswich, Andover and Longmeadow are road encounters.

All of these games get them ready for another trip to the postseason. The Red & Black will also leave the state to face another perennial winner when they take on Pinkerton Academy, last year’s Division 1 runner-up in New Hampshire, on Saturday, May 9, at noon.
