Four McCall Middle School eighth-graders talked to Winchester News before the end of school about how they collected toiletry articles for homeless shelters.

Isabella Bickford, Anna Dedeke, Sonia Kneiss and Lily Werner were looking for items, including sunscreen and menstrual products, which they put into 20 backpacks, according to Lily.

“We’ll give 10 of them to the Lowell Transitional Moving Center and the other 10 to the Somerville Homeless Coalition,” Anna says, of the plan for distribution.

“We [had] donation bins at McCall, and we [were] hoping to have one at the Winchester Public Library,” Sonia adds.

Lily adds, “We’ll do a presentation to our class on May 30.”

The program is under the auspices of their history teacher, John Hogan.  Unavailable to talk with Winchester News but part of the program were fellow students Teddy Fitch, Sonia Lamas, Scotlyn Moore and Sofia Quiles.
