Owen Wilson is a 13-year-old, 63-pound Catahoula Leopard, which is the state dog of Louisiana. This breed is thought to be a combination of dogs that Spanish and French explorers brought to the Choctaw Lakes region to herd wild boars in the 16th to 18th centuries.

The merle pattern is typical of Catahoulas, though Owen Wilson is quite unique, being mostly white.

Our family adopted him from a local rescue organization when we lived in Fishers, Ind., a suburb of Indianapolis. He had been found on the city streets, scrawny and with very little fur, estimated to be about 5 months old.

Since then, Owen has led an incredibly active and at times, hilarious life.  He sprints after woodchucks in the yard, plays with his favorite neighborhood friends, and loyally defends the household.
