There’s something unmistakably comforting about hearing a melody you already love. Come celebrate that feeling with a night of beloved jazz classics.

On Friday, Jan. 30, Winchester Unitarian Society’s acclaimed “Jazz in the Sanctuary” presents “Mid-Century Classics from the Record Cabinet,” beginning at 8 p.m.

From tunes that once drifted out of radios and record players to standards that have filled clubs for decades, the program invites you to settle in and enjoy a fabulous night of jazz that feels both timeless and welcoming.

Selections include such jazz classics as Horace Silver’s bossa nova-based “Song for My Father,” Thelonious Monk’s adventurous “Monk’s Dream,” Dave Brubeck’s lively “Rondo à la Turk,” and Ahmad Jamal’s lilting rendition of Nat Simon’s “Poinciana.” Also on the line-up are jazz renditions by jazz greats of the Beatles’ “She’s Leaving Home” and “Blackbird,” the English Folk tune “Billy Boy,” and more.

Music will be performed by Lihi Haruvi on saxophone, John Kramer on piano, Rick McLaughlin on bass, and Yoron Israel on drums.

The concert will be held at the Winchester Unitarian Society sanctuary, 478 Main St., Winchester; it will also be live streamed.

The venue is handicapped accessible, and street parking is available.

Suggested donations at the door, of $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students, help support our concerts and performers.
