On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Jenks Center, 109 Skillings Road, will host “Urban Howl: The Hidden Lives of Massachusetts Coyotes,” from 6-7 p.m., with Peter Abdu.
Coyotes are a familiar but often misunderstood presence in communities across Massachusetts. For more than a decade, Abdu has studied and documented urban coyote activity in the Boston area.
Drawing on years of field experience and remarkable footage captured by remote cameras, Abdu will reveal their family life, movements, and behavior in human-dominated landscapes.
This talk offers a rare glimpse into how coyotes thrive in urban environments, why conflicts can arise, and how people can coexist with them safely.
Abdu studied wildlife biology and electrical engineering at the University of New Hampshire. For more than 20 years, he has designed and deployed remote camera systems to document wildlife.
He has also designed camera systems and filmed wildlife for organizations including National Geographic, the BBC, and the Smithsonian.
Throughout his career, Abdu has worked as a researcher on a wide range of species, from mountain lions to bluefin tuna, but coyotes have remained the most secretive, elusive, and mysterious.
