The Winchester High boys soccer team is off to a fast 4-0 start after their most recent victories over Woburn (5-0, Sept. 15), Beverly (1-0, Sept. 19) and Melrose (5-0, Sept. 23).
They have so far outscored opponents to the tune of 16-1.
The Red & Black scored three first half goals against the Tanners. Faris Ebeid got the offense going with a goal from captain Cole Queenan. Ebeid then setup William Gately for goal number two. Captain Brady Cedrone produced the third tally from Kieran Sand.
Ebeid accounted for his second marker of the game to begin the second half on a solo effort, and he then made it a hat trick to close out the offense with his third goal from Queenan.
Captain Will Brown started the game in net. Samuel Kurowski and Pedro Padilla also saw time there as the game wore on in the second half.
Ebeid scored in the first half against non-league Beverly, and it held up throughout the rest of the game to keep his teammates undefeated after three. Sand was credited with an assist on the play.
Brown was in goal from start to finish in this game to record another shutout.
“Beverly is a Division 1 team that’s very athletic and physical,” said Coach Vin Musto. “While we controlled the game, the way we finished our scoring plays certainly left something to be desired. This will be a big focal point going into our league match against Melrose (on Sept. 23).”
As it turned out, the Winchester boys took the coach’s advice, and put five up on the scoreboard to beat the Red Hawks going away.
Junior Destin Liu knocked the first one home from Queenan. Queenan then picked up another helper on Lachlan Archer’s goal. The two also combined on the third tally, with Archer scoring again.
Queenan decided it was time for to get into the scoring act from Brown. Junior Hugo Brennan then closed out the scoring in this game from the team’s playmaker and captain Cole Queenan.
Brown played most of the game in the net – 50 minutes to be exact – before giving way to his backups Kurowski and Padilla.
The veteran Winchester coach has no complaints about his team’s performance against Melrose.
“The boys played well, and should be proud of their efforts so far this season,” Musto said. “That being said, we are only four matches into the season, and while it's nice to be winning matches, we still have not accomplished anything of substance. We are far more focused on our future challenges than our past successes.”
