After dropping a 1-0 heartbreaker to host Reading on Oct. 7, the Winchester High School boys soccer team (9-2-1) rattled off three straight wins, and are cruising toward the Division 1 playoffs.

As of the Oct. 16 MIAA power rankings, they are seeded 10th in a division that includes 59 clubs.

In those three games, the Red & Black edged Arlington (8-1-1, 18th seed in Division 1) on Oct. 10, 2-1, before shutting out host Burlington (7-5-1, 44th seed in Division 2) two days later, 6-0. They closed out the week with another 2-1 victory, this time over visiting Belmont (10-2-2, eighth seed in Division 1) on Oct. 14.

Captain Cole Queenan got the offense going against Arlington with a goal from junior Kieran Sand. Sand also set up the eventual game-winning marker for sophomore Felix Cobbold.

The goals then came fast and furious against the Red Devils. Senior Faris Ebeid accounted for the first goal of the game on a solo effort. Sand produced the next goal assisted by Faris Ebeid. Captain Ronan O’Hara notched the team’s third tally after taking a pass from Queenan.

Sand then collected his second of the game, with senior Jakob Chmielewski picking up an assist on the play. Chmielewski was also credited with the helper on the next goal by Cobbold. Freshman Yasir Ebeid closed out the scoring in this game with an unassisted tally.

In the highly competitive game against the Marauders, Queenan, the team’s leading scorer with 8 goals and 10 assists after 12 games, netted both scores for the Red & Black. Faris Ebeid, who’s right behind Cole on offense this fall with 6 goals and 6 assists, chipped in with the assist on his first goal, while Sand initiated the game-winning scoring play.

The Winchester boys are back on the pitch Monday, Oct. 19, at Lexington’s Lincoln Park to face off against the Minutemen, starting at 6:30 p.m. They will then return home to Knowlton two days later to close out the week versus Wilmington at 4:15 p.m.
