Music, dancers, food — and the Patriots? No, it wasn’t Town Day. It was the grand opening of Karma Asian Fusion restaurant.

Although the eatery had a soft opening on Sept. 26, it wasn’t until Tuesday that residents gathered at 16 Thompson St. for the official ribbon cutting.

“We’re very excited to open a new Karma in downtown Winchester,” said owner Iverson Guo, during the Oct. 8 event. “It’s our fifth store. We started the first one over 17 years ago.”

Guo added Winchester was a real draw for the chain.

“We love this community,” he said. “It has a lot of history and as you can see, the building is beautiful and elegant. And our food speaks for itself.”

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Guo addressed the growing crowd.

“Food unites us, what better way to build community than to sit down with friends and family and share a meal,” he said.

The Winchester location is currently at 100 seats, but an outdoor patio scheduled for next year will add 40 more seats. Karma also has an upstairs function room, which will be used for VIPS and special events.

Karma is also the official sponsor of the New England Patriots, some of whom were at Tuesday’s event, along with Pat the Patriot, the team’s mascot.

Karma also has locations in Westford, Andover, Concord and Burlington.

Winchester Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dana Garmey said she was excited to welcome the town’s newest restaurant.

“We are all thrilled that Karma has selected downtown Winchester to open its [fifth] location right in the heart of our historic downtown,” she said, the day after the opening. “Winchester already has a thriving restaurant scene and we expect Karma to not only enhance the atmosphere, but hopefully introduce new visitors to all the shopping, dining and cultural opportunities that Winchester has to offer. If the grand opening ceremony is any indication, I am positive Karma will be very successful here!”
