LETTER TO THE EDITOR: An invitation from Precinct 8’s Town Meeting members

Table of Contents

To the Editor:

Town Meeting is Winchester’s most significant governing body. Twenty-four Town Meeting members represent each of the 8 precincts in Winchester.

After the recent election,Town Meeting members from Precinct 8 got together and affirmed that we are eager to represent our precinct well regarding town budget plans, school plans and more.

We are fortunate in Winchester to live in a community with a thriving and active Town Meeting. The 192 elected members of Town Meeting translates to more than 1% of the town’s registered voters who are members of Town Meeting.

In addition to meeting twice annually in the spring and fall, Town Meeting members can and should serve as a powerful source of connectivity to our neighborhoods.

Precinct 8, the eastern part of the Lynch Elementary School district, is one of the most diverse parts of Winchester in terms of socioeconomic, age, and racial and ethnic backgrounds.

The Precinct 8 Town Meeting members who gathered recently want to engage with more of our neighbors to ensure we are reflecting your thoughts, needs and opinions and to help bring your concerns to the town government.

On Election Day, it was your Precinct 8 Town Meeting members under the red tent, sharing coffee and greeting Precinct 8 neighbors.

With the goal of greater civic engagement, we invite our Precinct 8 friends and neighbors to participate in the following ways:

• Help plan a series of events with our town officials, building on a recent event with the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Frank Hackett.

• Review the Precinct 8 discussion board on the Town Meeting Members Association website.

• Contact any of us directly – the listing of Town Meeting members, with addresses and contact information, can be found here. We would love to hear from you.

Our town thrives when we all work together and we look forward to working with our Precinct 8 neighbors to continue building a strong and welcoming Winchester.

Michael Creane, chair of Precinct 8, Winchester Town Meeting
