Indivisible Winchester, a local group of pro-democracy activists affiliated with the nationwide Indivisible movement, will hold the second in a series of monthly speaker programs on Monday, June 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room of the Winchester Public Library.

Doors open at 5:45 p.m.

The event is free to members and guests. Registration is required.

The group’s inaugural event in May sold out with standing room only.

Winchester resident Deirdre Giblin will be the featured speaker at the event. Giblin is a seasoned Human Rights Attorney with over 30 years of experiences in asylum and refugee law. She is currently serving as a senior attorney with the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI) in Boston.

At MLRI, Giblin works in the Immigrants Protection Project which engages in policy, advocacy, coalition building and impact litigation and serves as the poverty law support center for the Massachusetts civil and legal aid delivery system.

Giblin was a Case Scholar at Columbia Law School and earned her J.D. from Penn Law in 1993.

“Our immigrant community is under attack in unprecedented ways, said Eve Coffey, a member of the leadership team at Indivisible Winchester. “We are thrilled to have Deirdre help us understand how we can support our immigrant community during a time when due process is ignored and fear is crippling the lives of many who are stuck in a broken system.”

Registration for the program can be submitted here.

Indivisible Winchester is part of the national Indivisible movement, uniting concerned residents to support democratic values through civic action, education, and community building. The group is open to all who are committed to equity, transparency and peaceful engagement in the political process.
