Quick summary
Winchester Town Day returns on Saturday, June 6, 2026,Winchester Center for a daylong community celebration of exhibitors, food, music, athletics, children's activities and an evening fireworks display.
The downtown street fair runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. across Main, Mount Vernon and Thompson streets, with events beginning earlier in the morning and music and fireworks continuing into the night.
A Friday, June 5, evening kickoff leads into the main Saturday program. The rain date is Sunday, June 7. The schedule is labeled “subject to change,” and the Town Day Committee advises checking the Town Day booth, calling 781-526-6721 or visiting townday.org for updates.
What is Winchester Town Day?
Town Day began in the mid-1970s, when a group of Winchester residents decided that a late-spring community party would be a good way to start the summer.
The original Town Day was held from 1974 to 1976. It was revived in 1982 by the Winchester Jaycee chapter and is now overseen by the Winchester Town Day Committee, a group of volunteers who organize the celebration each year.
The committee describes Town Day as a day for the thousands of residents and families who attend to browse exhibits, play games, compete in athletics, eat, hear different kinds of music, visit a health fair and watch the grand-finale fireworks.
According to the history video produced for Town Day, the event is funded by T-shirt sales, booth fees and sponsor donations, and it is traditionally held on the first Saturday in June. Organizers say Town Day continues to grow in popularity as a way to kick off summer.
For participating organizations, the draw is the chance to meet the community face to face. The history video features groups such as Winchester ABC, an educational program that has brought high-performing high school students to Winchester since 1971, among the local organizations that take part.
The About page notes that volunteers are recruited every year for tasks including clerical work, marketing, production assistance, shirt sales, and booth and stage setup; the committee can be reached at townday@townday.org.
A note on the count: the About page calls 2026 the 45th consecutive year, while the exhibitor page refers to Winchester’s 45th annual Town Day in 2026. The exact relationship between the 1974-1976 original run and the count from the 1982 revival is not spelled out beyond those statements.

Locations and map guide
The Winchester Town Day location map marks lettered activity areas, parking and the information booth. Red dashed lines on the map indicate exhibitor areas, the streets closed for the fair; a red star marks the Town Day information booth; and green “P” markers indicate parking. The map shows landmarks including the Mill Pond, Winchester Center, Main Street, Waterfield Road, Church Street and Mystic Valley Parkway. Lettered areas A through G and J appear; there are no H or I labels.
Based on the schedule’s location codes:
- A — Fire Station and the Town Day booth: Friday Night Block Party; the all-day fireworks-starter drawing. The Town Day information booth is marked with a red star.
- B — Laraway Road: Winchester Fire Department vehicle and equipment display; Rock ‘N’ Roll RC Racing. Exhibitor permit drive-through registration is also at the rotary, 1 Laraway Road.
- C — the Common, Common Stage and Common bus stop: petting zoo, Kids’ Olympics, Diaper Derby, Best in Show Dog Show; Common Stage performances (Tai Chi, Karen Bernard School of Dance, Vimana, Sounds Like Chicken); and trolley-ride pickup at the Common bus stop.
- D — Eliot Park/Wedge Pond: Fishing Derby and The Calm Cove.

- J — Church/Parkway at Main Street and ‘Over Center’: Matt Heaton and the Outside Toys; and the fireworks, listed as “Over Center” and launched from Manchester Field per the fireworks form.
Specific parking-lot names are not labeled; the map shows several “P” markers around the Center, including near Winchester Center station. Plan to park on the edges of the closed streets and walk in.
Practical visitor tips
- Arrive early. The street fair opens at 9 a.m., and exhibitor setup begins at 7 a.m., with vehicles out of booth areas by 9 a.m. Several Center streets close to traffic, so allow time to park — look for the “P” markers on the map — and walk in.
- Where families might start. Good early stops include the Rotary pancake breakfast at Hope Church from 8 a.m., the bike rodeo at the high school from 8:30 a.m., and the Common (C), where the petting zoo, Kids’ Olympics and the new Diaper Derby run through the late morning. The Fishing Derby and the quiet Calm Cove are at Eliot Park/Wedge Pond (D).
- Best bets for kids. Beyond those: the Children's Art Show at Town Hall, DIY Wands on the Library Lawn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Matt Heaton and the Outside Toys concert at noon, the Rubber Duckie Race at 2 p.m., the Best in Show Dog Show at 3 p.m., and entering the fireworks-starter drawing, with sign-ups all day at the Town Day booth.
- Where to find music. Two stages run much of the day — the Mill Pond Stage (G) and the Common Stage (C) — plus the children's concert at the Church/Parkway corner (J). The evening concert and fireworks are at the Mill Pond Stage and over the Center.
- For adults. The Chamber of Commerce beer garden and the first-year wine garden run from 3 to 6 p.m. on the Griffin Museum patio (E).
- If the weather is uncertain. The rain date is Sunday, June 7. Check www.townday.org or call 781-526-6721 after 7 a.m. on Town Day; the committee's hold-or-cancel decision is final. The fireworks form states the fireworks themselves go off rain or shine at 9:15 p.m.
- For updates. Check the Town Day booth for the latest, or visit www.townday.org.
