The Winchester Artists Network annual member show opens at Winchester Public Library on May 1. Featuring over 20 pieces from 18 artists, the art will be on display throughout the Library during May.

This year’s show is especially notable as it includes personal statements from the artists highlighting their connections to the Town of Winchester, in tribute to the town’s celebration of its 175th anniversary.

Many of the artists speak to the inspiration they receive from the natural beauty of Winchester’s gardens, parks and forested areas.

As watercolor painter Elizabeth Hardjono states, “Nature around Winchester town has always provided me with inspiration to capture the essence of the fleeting moment and to represent these as abstract lines, colors and structures.”

Rose Walsh-Cooke uses the charming downtown as muse for some of her oil paintings, “Winchester continues to inspire me and I have painted a few local scenes over the years.”

Whether through natural landscapes or community offerings, it is evident that Winchester offers much to motivate these artists in their work. The art on view includes oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, photography, textiles, woodblock print, collage and mixed media.

Participating artists include: Theodore Cantrell, Diane Davies, Fenway Fan, David Feigenbaum, Trish Gannon, Elizabeth Hardjono, Thomas Hardjono, Mary Hummon, David Hummon, Ruth Lieberherr, Deb O’Brien, Jay Sullivan, Cristy Walsh, Rose Walsh-Cooke, Martina Werner, John M. Williams, Meg Steele Wingerath and Kiyomi Yatsuhashi.

All are welcome to an opening reception Saturday, May 3, from 3-5 p.m. to meet some of the artists. Information regarding purchasing artwork directly from each artist is available via exhibit lists at the Library Circulation Desk and at the Lobby Display Case.

Winchester Artists Network was founded in 1999 to establish a working forum for local artists in the community. As an organization, and with the support of the Winchester Cultural Council, it promotes the increased presence of art in the Winchester, MA community through exhibitions, education and excellence in the visual arts. Establishing connections among artists, educators, businesses, and community services remains its main goal.
