Winchester fire officials believe a fire at the former home of Uptown Gelato & Boba on Main Street earlier this week was due to an electrically powered refrigerated deli style case.

According to fire reports, crews reported to 527 Main St. after a report of smoke coming from the building. Firefighters forced entry into the building via the front door, found the fire and quickly put it out.

Other crews entered through the building’s rear and side doors and ventilated the area of smoke.

Woburn fire crews were also on scene and were released after an “air quality check was done.” Mutual aid crews oversaw the empty Winchester stations during the emergency.

Winchester crews checked for any further signs of fire, but none were found. The report stated the “fire was contained to the refrigerated unit.”

The owner of the building was contacted in order to board up the building and secure the structure.

No one was injured in the fire.
