Rep. Michael S. Day joined his colleagues at the second annual Military Appreciation Day ceremonies at the Massachusetts State House, where Winchester’s Gregory Quill was among those recognized and honored.
Hosted by the Executive Office of Veterans Services in collaboration with the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate, the event recognized the contributions of veterans, active-duty service members and military families from across Massachusetts.
Day nominated Mr. Quill, a respected veteran and member of the Winchester community, as this year’s honoree.
“Greg Quill represents the very best of our community,” said Day. “His lifetime of service to our country, the Town of Winchester and our veterans continues to impact our community for the better, and I am immensely proud that my colleagues in state government joined me in recognizing Greg’s leadership, courage and compassion.”
Quill served more than 20 years in the United States Air Force with distinction in roles, including Security Specialist, Law Enforcement Officer, Flight Chief, Squad Leader, Flight Leader and Assistant Force Protection Officer.

He deployed numerous times worldwide in both hostile and non-hostile environments. He also earned numerous awards and citations for meritorious service, including the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and four Air Force Commendation Medals. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant (E-7).
Quill continued his public service career through his work as a paramedic and in nine years of service as a lieutenant paramedic with the Winchester Fire Department. He retired as a lieutenant with the Winchester Fire Department and currently serves as the Veterans Service Officer for the Town of Winchester as well as the parade marshal for VFW Post 3719.
This year’s Military Appreciation Day ceremonies opened with remarks from Gov. Maura Healey, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, Veterans Services Secretary Eric Goralnick, Veterans Services Deputy Secretary Andrea Gayle-Bennett and featured a keynote address from Brig. Gen. George “Chris” Hackler, Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) and Senior Commander of the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center.
Massachusetts leads the nation in veterans’ services through continued, historic investments that strengthen support programs, expand access to care and rebuild trust with veterans and military families across the Commonwealth.
In 2024, Day voted for the HERO Act, landmark legislation that delivers nation-leading benefits and protections for veterans and military families. The law expands financial assistance and tax relief, broadens the definition of “veteran” and modernizes veterans’ services by improving access to mental health care, medical assistance and critical support programs so veterans can more easily access available resources.
