The Winchester Town Meeting Members Association (TMMA) supports informed discussion and decision-making for Town Meeting members. Its monthly Bulletin shares brief updates from town boards and commissions about their current work. Winchester News will publish each Bulletin as it’s released so all residents can stay informed. Select Board News
In celebration of the semiquincentennial, State Representative Mike Day presented Winchester with a hand-pressed copy of the Declaration of Independence. The Select Board welcomed three students from Saint Germaine-en-Lay, Winchester’s sister city in France, earlier in July. Many thanks to Jumelage and the families who hosted them.
The wait is over—work is in progress on the Muraco culvert repairs! Nearby you’ll notice work taking place on the Cross Street bridge. The town is working closely with the MBTA to monitor traffic and pedestrian safety in the area. —Anthea Brady, Chair, Select Board
Early In-Person Voting Begins August 22
Registered voters can cast their ballots early in person at Winchester Town Hall (Winchester Room, first floor, next to the Town Clerk’s Office), 71 Mt. Vernon St., on the following dates:
- Saturday, August 22: 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Monday–Thursday, August 24–27: 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
- Friday, August 28: 8 a.m.–12 noon
Voters may also request a Vote by Mail ballot. Applications are currently being accepted and processed. Town Early Voting webpage. —MaryEllen Marshall, Town Clerk
School Committee: New Staff, Summer Planning, WCCP
The quieter days of summer bring time for the School Committee to engage in longer-range planning and to prepare for next year. After successful searches, two new key staff members will join WPS in preparation for 2026-27: Dr. Heidi Paisner-Roffman as Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education and Mr. Wayne Puglisi as Athletic Director at WHS. Thanks to all the community members and staff who participated in these searches!
In addition, members considered WCCP project proposals involving property over which the Committee has care and control, voting to co-sponsor a request for a shade structure at Lincoln Elementary and improvements to the Tri-Community Bikeway (crossing the Muraco property). —Timothy Matthews, Chair, School Committee
Energy Projects Save Town Money
The Energy Management Committee (EMC), along with the Facilities Department, are moving along projects that seal doors all over town, including at schools, Town Hall, DPW and Public Safety. The EMC also voted to use $8,000 from the Energy Revolving Fund, which will unlock $30,000 in utility incentives. The projects are expected to save $10,238 annually in energy expenses. —Susan McPhee, Winchester Energy Conservation Coordinator and Non-Voting Member, EMC
Winchester Housing Authority Update
The Winchester Housing Authority (WHA) has been having a great 2026 so far. We have two very active tenant associations that have been enjoying the warmer weather by holding luncheons, movie night events, and barbecuing for the summer holidays. —James Harris, Chair, WHA
WinCAM at Parkhurst
WinCAM’s move to the Parkhurst School is well underway, with full occupancy expected soon. Because of the Town’s robust fiber loop, WinCAM has already moved its broadcast server and most networking equipment to Parkhurst and was off the air for only a few short hours on a Saturday afternoon. The rooms are currently being professionally painted and a large-scale furniture move is scheduled for August 25. —Shawn Macannuco, President, WinCAM Board of Directors
Field Management Update
The Field Management Committee (FMC) met on July 15 to discuss the following agenda:
- Engagement with field users on field issues
- Meeting with field users to ensure equipment is properly and safely stored
- Reinforcing the need for field users to respect field guidelines (sunflower seeds on turf are increasing maintenance costs by requiring annual cleaning instead of every other year)
- Building a positive relationship with new WHS Athletic Director Wayne Puglisi
- Building a relationship with the Conservation Committee to support common projects and effective WCCP support
- Remaining aware of ongoing project details with WCCP and Capital support
