Winchester Hospital, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, has named Sophie Culver, MD, as chief medical officer.

In this role, Culver will lead efforts to enhance clinical excellence, maximize patient safety, reduce harm, and foster strong, collaborative relationships among medical, nursing, and administrative teams to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.

“Sophie brings a patient-first approach to every aspect of her leadership, while championing innovation, collaboration and accountability,” said Tim Jones, interim president, Winchester Hospital. “We are excited to welcome her to Winchester Hospital.”

Culver previously served as deputy medical director at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. During her tenure, she played a key leadership role in advancing system-wide quality initiatives, improving health system operations, and supporting care teams in delivering safer, more efficient, and patient-centered care.

Culver began her medical career at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she spent eight years in progressively senior roles.

“It is an honor to join Winchester Hospital and to commit to its mission of providing extraordinary care in the community,” said Culver. “I look forward to integrating evidence-based practices into everyday patient care and leading my fellow physicians by example.”

Culver graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences. She went on to achieve a graduate certificate in Premedical Studies from American University in Washington, D.C. and earned her Medical Degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Domenica. She completed her internal medicine residency training at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health – Jersey City Medical Center. Dr. Culver is a member of the American Medical Association and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
