It was a joyful night in Woburn celebrating nonprofits lucky enough to receive grants from the Cummings Foundation. This year’s grant program had approximately 950 applicants, with 150 local-area organizations receiving multi-year grant funding.

Leases in the Cummings commercial properties are what fund the Foundation and the Foundation is run mostly by employees who volunteer their time.

The Cummings Foundation’s annual grant program gave away $35 million dollars this year (up from $30 million) to over 100 nonprofit grantees. In honor of those awarded funding, a celebration was held at Tradecenter 128, a Cummings property in Woburn.

There were speeches, a poem by the Foundation’s Executive Director Joyce Vyriotes was read by Joyce and Trustees of the Foundation, a musical performance by young musicians supported by Zumix an East Boston grantee, passed hors d’oeuvres, photo stations and a wonderful t-shirt display honoring the grantees.

Gov. Maura Healey was the keynote speaker who expressed congratulations and support for nonprofits. She pointed out how important nonprofits are in helping build community and in supporting those in need, especially during difficult times.

Bill and Joyce Cummings also provided their words of wisdom, along with their congratulations and gratitude to not only the grantees but also those that work for Cummings Property and the Foundation, who make it all happen.

Winchester News received a $75,000 grant paid out over three years and the Winchester Historical Society received a $300,000 grant also paid out over three years. Both were present for the celebration and thought it was a wonderful evening full of positivity and hope.
